Journey: Aspeberget – Kungskylyftan Fjallabacka – Veddö Nature Reserve – Greby – Karlstad
Monday’s rock! We have had such a great day outdoors with the sun shining. I had slept like a log, only got 3mins into my sleep meditation audio and was zonked and slept through a caravan arriving at 1am which supposedly set the dogs off into crazy bark mode – I didn’t even stir….Mark gets so frustrated by my coma sleeping abilities 😂
Anyway we were up bright and early to walk the pups to the rock carvings of Tanum and a lovely short hike to see burial cairns. The age and clarity of these carvings are just fascinating and its clear we are still unsure of their complete meaning. The free Vitlycke museum was really good and had a special exhibition on rock art tattoos, its easy to see how you could feel a strong connection to these drawings, but I’m still too wimpy to get a tattoo (I have a design I’ve been contemplating for a month or so, in case I get brave).
It meant driving back a bit but I fancied visiting some balanced boulders at Kungskylyftan Fjallabacka. Turns out this was a thriving little marine town that Ingrid Bergman used to visit (I didn’t know who she was 🙈). To get to the site meant the pups first bouldering experience and bless little Mabel’s short legs she managed it and Markles got pulled along by the boys. Ernest has no fear whatsoever so wasn’t much concerned about possible twisted ankles 😂 We took it in turns to go up to the top as it was too steep for the pups but the view was magnificent.
From there we drove on to Veddö Nature Reserve and did a wonderful hour long loop which included friendly sheep, cows, secret bays, paddling, lots of bouldering and gorgeous views. I felt truly spoilt to be out in such stunning scenery.
Knowing we had a long drive ahead we made a mini pit stop at Greby to see the standing stones then onwards to Karlsted past numerous lakes and seemingly unending forest. Mark shared the driving so that I could be on moose watch but no luck today.
We had booked onto a proper campsite as had masses of laundry and chores to do and when we arrived my heart sank…it is like Butlins on steroids – not my ideal 🙈 Still after psyching myself up for over an hour to brave the dreaded 4 minute shower dash, I got the best surprise – it was UNLIMITED! 😄😄😄 Honestly this made my day, it was hot, optionally lobster hot. Bye bye smelly yeti, hello slinky soon to smell of dog again woman. I even shaved my toes, and double checked for missing patches 😂If I can have an unlimited shower once a month I will be a very happy woman.
Anyway with the highlight of the day done, I’m now waiting up until midnight for two of the four loads of laundry to complete…living the high life 🤣
